I agree with Corey here (wow twice in 24 hours!), I never refer to
Ubuntu by version number personally and neither does the majority of
Ubuntu user community. Most technology web sites refer to the codename
when reviewing Ubuntu and the codename is easier to remember too (which
is why we have DNS instead of remembering IP addresses for example). I
fear that people will perceive our documentation as overly technical on
face value when faced with a choice of version number rather then
codenames and seek other forms of information instead. 

Can't we just limit the number of tabs at the top to the current and
next releases, putting older documentation in an "archive area" instead?
