It is excellent. I've committed your patch. Thank you. I've couple of
quick comments regarding your patch:
1) As you mentioned, Ubuntu ships with a number of graphical utilities
to configure the network. But, here in server guide, we mostly
concentrate/prefer command line utilities. You exactly explained the
steps to configure using "ifconfig" command. So, IMO let us alter this
sentence as "Ubuntu ships with a number of utilities to configure the
network".
2) I also recommend you to include a section to configure network via
dhcp. We use '$ sudo dhclient eth0' command to configure network via
dhcp. Alternatively, we can edit /etc/network/interfaces file, thus
/etc/init.d/networking script takes care of it. You can decide which
method you wish to include. I would appreciate if you get a patch for
this.
3) I've changed the status of these sections
