Hey Matthew
- translating software into your language
>
Regarding this part of the project. There have been numerous, seemingly
endless, discussions in the translation mailing list about doing
translations in LP regarding dome of the following issues:
- Difficulty in contributing LP translations upstream
- Difficulty in merging upstream translation
- If merging does the LP translation or the upstream translation have
priority
- Only two different user level, making it very hard to bring in newbies and
check up on their work before (At least that was the case the last time i
read the discussion)
- Ultimately doing double work if you can't convince your upstream team to
use this fancy web interface, and merging isn't possible/practical
All this has had the consequence (at least it would seem so from the
conclusions of those discussions) that many translation team do all the
stuff that is not Ubuntu specific upstream instead. This brings me to two
points regarding this documentation:
1. I know that the Ubuntu team is very exited about LP and off course
there's no need to mentions any of these shortcomings in the documentation.
I do however think it would be prudent to mention that not all translations
are done in LP, so that a potential new translator is not being mislead.
2. Due to the fact, that a large part of that translation efforts is being
done outside of LP, I think you can allow yourself to give some of the other
documentation a higher priority.
Regards TLE
