Thanks for this Jeff. The problem seems mainly to do with embedding
fonts: fop doesn't seem to do this by default, and so far, I can't
figure out how to do it, the documentation[1] goes over my head
somewhat.

I am not sure whether this is an issue for us or not, because I think
that the fonts used by the pdfs are mainly those "that must be available
to every PDF reader". Still, I've played around with the xsl and will
upload it now as branches/dapper/libs/ubuntu-pdf-lulu.xsl (I've been
using fop 0.20-5 with that), and maybe someone else will be able to
figure it out. This is the latest version of the pdfs:

I've tried to take into account as many of the comments as I've read
here so far, please take another look and make any further suggestions.
