There has been the references in the past on the public mailing lists about 
the Fridge.  See for example:

So it's not that secretive...just not well known it seems and lost in the 
large number of e-mails on the Ubuntu lists.

So where is the "spreadubuntu" gang hangs out?  In one of the forum?  IRC?
