OTOH while doing some gardening I resumed this page:

Compared to what we have now, it also has:

Welcome
        Login

Actions / Computer?
        Run applications
	etc

Logging out

Which don't seem to be bad ideas: I integrated them.  Logging out could
probably be merged into Actions, but the Welcome part makes sense and
allows to cover the advantage of a full multiuser system and gdm.
