How to bring onscreen keyboard back in the lock screen?

Hi,

Onboard, the on-screen keyboard shipping by default with Ubuntu used to be available in the lock screen to enter the password without using a hardware keyboard. In fact, the gnome-screen-saver used to be responsible for the screen locking, but apparently this changed at some point after Trusty's feature freeze.

The problem has already been reported by two people:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/onboard/+bug/1301070
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/onboard/+bug/1298246

FYI, the issue happens only on the lock screen; the login screen with unity-greeter is still supporting Onboard when it gets activated.

Could anybody please tell us what is going on and what we can do from the side of Onboard to get the on-screen keyboard back in the lock screen?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Francesco
