Sorry, but this seems like a really naive statement.  HW-related bugs 
frequently are only exposed by some particular software operation. 
Right now it's hardware driver + X + openGL libs.  In the future it will 
be hardware driver + Mir + openGL + XMir.  That is, for Unity.  The 
Kubuntu people will need to worry about

    HW driver + X + openGL
    HW driver + Mir + openGL + XMir
    HW driver + Wayland + openGL

There are plenty of bugs which never seem to get fixed already under the 
less complex scenario; thinking that Mir + XMir is just a lateral shift 
which won't make the problem worse is wishful thinking.

In the long run, options and competition will result in a much better 
graphics subsystem.  Short term, there is likely to be a lot of pain and 
frustration, and pretending this won't be the case is going to lead to 
(even more) disgruntled users and developers.
