Right, sorry, I'm currently getting filled up with email, it's taking
me a while to catch up with everything.

You can, by exporting NO_PKG_MANGLE=1 in debian/rules.

I haven't yet checked the bugs to see whether this is sufficient, or
the actual answer to that problem.
