I've been using the Emacs 23 package since Karmic (maybe even before). It's
now the default in Lucid and it's been incredibly stable for me.
I haven't looked at the detailed information on the differences between v22
and v23, but the big one for me is Xft support.

I would have no problem removing Emacs 22 for Maverick also. Note that Emacs
23.2 was released upstream on 2010-05-08 (Lucid's is 23.1):

I hope we'll pick that up in Maverick eventually. It's in Debian unstable
right now.
