emacs22 versioning in Ubuntu

Hi,

I've had to maintain this delta in Ubuntu's dpkg for some time now:

This is now one of the few Ubuntu-specific changes left in dpkg, and
it's inconvenient to keep on merging it; I'm trying hard to get to the
point where we can sync it unmodified instead, and am down to just this
plus one other tiny unforwarded patch. Is there any hope that emacs22
will ever be merged up to match the current Debian packaging?

There is, presumably, the option of removing emacs22 and shipping only
emacs23. I note that emacs22 has been removed from Debian squeeze
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=582156). Since I
don't use Emacs, I'm not qualified to say whether we should remove it
from Maverick too.

(See also

Thanks,
