pkgcache.bin and srcpkgcache.bin on the Desktop CD

Hello,

is the initial presence of theses files in /var/cache/apt/ important for 
the running system? I noticed they get recreated on apt-get update and 
that they speed up apt-cache queries.

On the 10.04.1 live uncompressed system they take 9Mb and removing them 
results in an ISO image which is ~3.5 Mb smaller than the original 
without any ill effect (besides apt-cache taking 2-3 seconds instead of 
1-2 on the few queries I made).
