These are valid concerns about the state of these packages, but I would
point out that both of these packages have Ubuntu-specific changes so would
not have been automatically synced from Debian regardless.  If there are
serious problems with the packages currently in lucid that require a new
upstream version to fix, please follow the exception process documented at
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#FeatureFreeze%20for%20new%20upstream%20versions>
so that we can consider getting updates in before final freeze takes effect
next Thursday.

Cc:ing a few Ubuntu developers who have touched those packages recently;
perhaps they can help you make this happen.
