One of the things I really like about Free software is that it can be more
responsive to users concerns. We discussed your message some on
#kubuntu-devel (and there is a kubuntu-devel at lists.ubuntu.com which might
be more appropriate for further Kubuntu specific discussion) and
considered that there are some widgets (like the application
launcher/start menu) which it is more important than others that users not
remove. One of our developers has now written a patch to ask for
confirmation for removal of important widgets so that the chances of a new
user ending up in this position are reduced.
He's testing the patch now and then there will be some review and if it
goes well, this will be in the next Kubuntu release in October.
