Can Pidgin 2.6(.1) replace Empathy for Karmic now?

Absolutely, but while Empathy is certainly the future, and Telepathy is 
a stunning framework, in terms of user-facing features, Empathy seems to 
be less mature for the primary use cases that we are focusing on and 
buggy in audio/video. It just strikes me that Empathy needs to bake 
longer and needs more testing and debugging. It reminds me of similar 
issues with GStreamer when that came out: it took a little while to get 
some testing under it's belt before it could be shipped.
