Just to get my 2 cents in, as someone who needs syncing real bad
(Kontact -> Nokia 6288 || Kontact -> Dell x50v).

I would rather that Ubuntu ship with no syncing support than with
broken or outdated syncing support. If it's broken or outdated, it
won't work anyway and it will make things harder to deal with and
explain in forums when I try to install the latest open sync myself.
Just ditch the syncing support and concentrate your efforts where they
are more urgently needed.
