Upgrades, kernel removal and last-good-boot

Thanks (for those watching at home, it's actually
/etc/event.d/last-good-boot).

I've seen this fail several times during boot (a message from upstart
indicating that kernel-helper exited with status 1).

Is its output logged anywhere so that failures can be diagnosed?
