[note, this is non-feisty material]

For feisty+1, the toolchain packages currently prepared can be found at

  deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/ toolchain-test/
  deb-src http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/ toolchain-test/

These should properly install on top of a current feisty chroot/installation.
Binary packages are available for i386, amd64, powerpc and sparc.

The updates include:

 - GCC: current gcc-4_1-branch and gcc-4_2-branch packages.
 - binutils trunk, which will become 2.18 during the feisty+1
   release cycle
 - glibc 2.5, updated from the glibc-2_5-branch; 2.6 is not released.
 - gcj is updated to the java 4.1 backport from Fedora, and backported
   from the trunk to 4.2.

One outstanding issue of switching to gcc-4.2 as the default compiler for
feisty+1 is discussed in the thread starting at

  http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2007-02/msg00390.html

The performance drop on the two benchmarks seems to be well understood, GCC
developers tend to trade the performance regression for more correct code in
4.2. In the repository above, gcc, g++, etc still point to 4.1.
