Edgy (with current apt updates) -- Alacarte won't start

I'd like to interject here that I think one of the reasons people
report bugs to this mailing list is that there isn't a way (correct me
if I'm wrong) to specify in the meta-data on malone if your bug is on
the stable release or development.

This leads to a lot of confusion for both the users and the engineers.
I have, on occasion, had a bug be marked fix-released when really all
that means is that the bug has been fixed in development and might
never be back-ported to stable.

The above point is going to become much more important now that the
LTS release is out. Bugs might show up regularly which have been
fixed for months in later releases and people will just keep closing
them because "it works for me" or they'll just remain open because
nobody can figure out how to reproduce the bug.

Also, as I think is probably the case here, sometimes there's no point
filing a bug on development because it may be something that will be
fixed in a few minutes and your bug report only serves to distract the
bug squad and waste people's time.

In summary: Malone needs to ask the reporter which release the bug
was found in. This has been a known problem for a long time and
really needs to be addressed if you want to be able to manage your bug
database.
