   As I thought, for some reason your Ubuntu installation doesn't have
the 'xorg' metapackage installed. (otherwise this wouldn't have
happened)

   Anyhow, I'll upload an update of xorg-server later today, to make
sure the drivers are upgraded even if this metapackage is removed by the
user. (xserver-xorg-core had a "Breaks: <all drivers>" a few releases
ago, but this was removed due to Breaks: support being still incomplete)
