I feel compelled to clarify a few things.  My agenda, such as it is, is to 
modernize Ubuntu's iptables package.  This could clearly be done by resyncing 
with Debian, which hasn't been done in some time.  It could also be done by 
starting from scratch with a much simpler package and new upstream source.  
That approach would give us more features than we have now, and fewer 
features than the Debian package.

In my personal correspondences with Laurence, there seem to have been some 
misunderstandings about the package I was referring to (Ubuntu's vs. 
Debian's).  If he hasn't been permanently put off by that, or by my perceived 
agenda, I'm still pretty interested in this discussion with him and the 
Ubuntu community.
