I guess that nVidia & AMD would reply: "if Ubuntu and other open source
operating systems want open source drivers for high-performance graphics
cards, they can design their own open-hardware graphics cards". Because
at the moment, unfortunately, there is no real alternative for those two
companies in the high-performance GPU market.
