In my own backup solution have also a "clean".
It wipes out e.g. FF browser Cache and ~/.thumbnails/* from the backup.
(The browser cache is per dafault 50MB)

These are temporary data stored in $HOME and do not need to be backed-up.

I also feel this is a functionality which should be somehow be included
in the ne backup tool.
