After earlier tried to use SELinux (on Fedora) but give up due to the
complexity I got interested in AppArmor that was open sourced by Novell
early this year. AppArmor proactively protects the system from security
threats, both internal and external. It enforce the applications to only
be able to access resources aimed to be accessed by the application. In
this way the system is protected to both known and unknown threats.
I have created proof of concept packages for Dapper. And started
creating security profiles with a lot of help from Taco Witte. All
created profiles are not yet packaged but are downloadable from my site.
The packages have earlier been published at the ubuntu-hardened-list.
The specification can be found at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AppArmor
The Launcpad entry can be found at:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+spec/apparmor
The packages can be found at: http://www.linuxalert.org/ubuntu/apparmor/
I have proposed the spec for the Paris Summit. Unfortunately can't I
attend the meeting.
Regards,
/Magnus
