FAI is very straight forward for installing masses of machines. You can adjust
everything and anything. I'm doing this for a project right now, and I'm
using ubuntu server as fai master.
Installing Ubuntu itself via fai is very easy. If you want, we can work on
this and write an howto :)
Thomas Lange and Henning Sprang from FAI team are very interested in our
research anyways.
There is as well an FAI Multidistro release for installing ubuntu out of the
box with FAI.
