Has anyone checked exactly how many of these applications there are?
While there is probably a good number of them, there are also many
applications that don't communicate with xscreensaver either.
95% of things working with xscreensaver and 10% with gnome-screensaver
is very different to if it was 30% and 25% (those numbers are completely
made up). If no-one has actually looked at how many of each there are,
throwing around vague "some applications" doesn't help to figure out
whether the trade-off is worth it.
