Totem any time soon?

While I'm personally all for using totem and gstreamer, because there is

The issue about patents is that you can not distribute them by default
because of stupid laws in some countries. But still there are plugins
for using them for people who may use them. Using this plugins playing
all formats (which can be played using vlc) should work. But in fact
(even if gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is installed) they don't.
Just another example:
With a lot of media types when you try to play them with totem/gstreamer
seeking is terribly broken (I think it's even for Theora, but I haven't
tried it recently). If you move the seekbar to the position where you
would expect the end, you might end up being in the middle of the movie
or still at the beginning. Back and Forward Arrows are grayed out
playing most formats, too.
(I don't know whether those are frontend or backend bugs, but I'd expect
the first to be backend and the second to be frontend)

I sure think with some work totem + gstreamer can be made useable, but
in the current state they are not really.
