Have you considered leaving a 301 around forever? I have quite a few old
Bugzilla URLs in the wiki for all my laptop testing notes that are
broken now. (Not to mention all the blog and forum posts that say
something like "oh, look at the workaround at <bugzilla url>").

It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to just leave around a
dummy .php page (or Apache modrewrite directive) to translate the old URLs.

If you don't want it indexed by search engines -- you could exclude it
with robots.txt, but still leave it intact for end-users.

Thanks,
Adam
