Serious bug ... xserver-xorg-core update kills X

If it's as straightforward as that, then how about making it appear as an
option under grub by default in Edgy? Something like "Ubuntu - Safe
Graphical Mode".

I didn't experience the breakage that happened today with
xserver-xorg-core. Would this have been a viable option given today's
breakage to enable users to login graphically?
