Actually I tend to use the right-click on that icon as my main way to
hibernate the laptop (when it worked...it currently doesn't in Dapper
for my laptop).  For suspend, I simply close the lid.  I rarely use
the function keys to do a suspend/hibernate since I find it awkward to
find the function keys on this small keyboard instead of a mouse click
action.  I also find that that right-click on g-p-m  is quicker than
clicking on the logout icon, waiting for that window to appear, then
finding the hibernate/suspend menu from that logout menu.

All this is not a strong opinion about one way over the other (and I
will adjust to whatever is the final way), but I do use the
right-click g-p-m options with the current Dapper.
