Are there any disadvantages of the 640x400 mode?

These laptops really shouldn't require the vga=771 option for install 
(which disables usplash btw, and if you remove it usplash will be 
distorted), as they don't for other operating systems, which do have 
hibernate/suspend features that work just as good as Ubuntu.

I remember that there were some other disadvantages for some chipsets 
that couldn't use framebuffer? I can't seem to get my head around the 
problem.
