sound preferences

I'm sure this has been reported before, but the sound preferences applet 
really sucks :-). For example, if I want to disable all sound effects 
except the startup sound, I have to 'remove' all the other ones 
manually, which is a pain. Even worse however, is if I decide I want to 
go back to the way it was, I have to go through each sound event 
manually and select the correct one for each.

* There needs to be a "default" option.
* There should be a "none" and "all" option, and maybe profiles too.
* The games don't need to be listed, they should have controls for their 
own sounds.

These things are really simple to implement, right?
