OpenOffice.org Spellcheck, a bug or just me?

This is odd. I wonder if there is a package that should be installed
but isn't or if there is something I should remove and reinstall.
I have a machine which, (to my recollection) was a fresh install of
colony 1 (now colony 4+), and another machine which was an upgrade
from hoary to breezy, colony 3 (now colony 4). Both exhibit the same
anomaly with OOo2.
