Thanks for the pointers. I must admit I'm quite surprised to see so
many (five) bugs against scim in malone. I need to get familar with
this launchpad thing soon.

Of course. At least it should be figured out which module is causing
the segfault.
Meanwhile I would suggest you trying to set GTK_IM_MODULE to xim (in
your /etc/X11/Xsession.d/74custom-scim_startup if you followed the
instructions in http://www.mrbass.org/linux/ubuntu/scim/), and manually
run "scim -d" in a X terminal after X starts. See if that helps you.
