I've been discussing this off and on with the Debian SCIM maintainer,
and (time and volunteer testing permitting) we're committing to getting
this whole mess sorted in a much more reasonable fashion for dapper.

This includes cleaning up the packages themselves, as well as attempting
to pick reasonably sane defaults for each language, so that installing
support for a new language via our handy-dandy language-selector can
also install a workable input method for you.

Not sure how much of this we'll manage to get to, but it IS being looked
at, both in Debian and Ubuntu.
