As it turns out the
bug<http://http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13888>is already
filed (in different context).

Having no access at all for other users is not the right default IMHO.

I agree. Simon Smith, who filed the bug, claims, that this bug could also
prevent gdm to read users' face pictures.
