docs on Ubuntu AMD64 design?

| I just noticed that Ubuntu does NOT seem to be using the "pure 64 bit"
| used by Debian AMD64.  Instead, Ubuntu seems to provide additional 32
| bit compatibility libraries.

Apart from a few extra ia32-libs packages, we use the exact same
design as Debian does.  The design is not documented outside the
ia32-libs source package, to the best of my knowledge.
