The entire reason for this thread is that Scott's actively investigating
and working on the problem, not ignoring it; Dapper has already had 10
seconds or so shaved off its boot time, and fixing up various bits of
the udev/hotplug set will shave off more.

However, since Dapper will be a long-term supported release, we want to
make sure the improvements we make there are evolutionary rather than
revolutionary. Revolutions can wait for Dapper+1.
