Just my two cents, but wouldn't it be possible to combine both questions
into one screen to make sure there is no confusion?
So just ask the user for his complete name and ask him/her for the user name
to be used at login.

Since both questions are on the same screen, everyone can see/examine the
difference between the information requested....

I think it would be prudent to show a disclaimer during the request for
the users full name, such that the end user understands that this is not
the actual username for the linux system.  IMHO.
