Ruby not up-to-date (bug 12613)

As a workaround to the above bug:

After also experiencing much pain getting ruby 1.8.2 (from source) up 
and running on Hoary it has now been done.

A good deal of thanks is owed to those who contributed to the ruby/rails

The missing link for Hoary however is the base package requirement, some 
of which are obvious (gcc) others not so (zlib1g-dev).  The complete 
list of packages required to be added to a Hoary server install are:
- gcc
- cpp
- libc6-dev
- linux-kernel-headers
- make
- binutils
- checkinstall
- installwatch
- zilb1g-dev

Best of luck to anyone giving this a go.
