Hoary fonts

I am at the moment editing a document in openoffice. I am running a 
fully updated hoary/xorg system, and I just noticed that I can not see 
the difference between a regular piece of times new roman 10 text, or 
the same piece of text bolded untill I actually print the piece.

Has anything changed in Hoary with regards to font management? At the 
moment for me this is quite annoying, almost unworkable.
