that did the trick, thanks.
So I can now run gdm. Since the computer only has 192mb of memory, it
is barely usable and rather slow (I will have to manually turn on the
swap partition; is that planned for the final version to do during the
boot like Knoppix would do?).
The only issue I ran into is that it doen't seem to configure my sound
card (SB Live).
