I can now confirm that dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg doesn't modify
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. And when I copied my own copy from my working
Hoary installation on the same machine, it didn't work. gdm attempted
to start, but after a little while, said there was a error. And when
it asked me if I wanted to see the error report, it totally froze the
whole machine after I said yes.
