I think something like this is also happening to me since the errors I
get back from gdm when trying to run it don't seem to correspond to
the graphic card I'm defining with dpkg-reconfigure. Since I have
hoary on that machine, in theory I should be able to mount my hoary
partition and copy my previously configured xorg.conf to the live
filesystem and that should do it. I'll try this a bit later.
A couple of minor things I noticed: the root account has some old
messages in its mailbox. Also the ubuntu bitmap used during the
initial boot (before d-i starts) is slightly distorted on my machine.
But this live CD is a huge improvement over Warty's Live CD since I
was never able to even boot the later (bug #2697). So this live cd is
a great news on my hardware.
