Yes and you can easily use the horizontal scroll wheel by adding this to your 
xorg.conf

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"

Also changing procol to ExplorerPS/2 and adding 

Option "Buttons" "9"

made my side buttons work in xev so I now can use them in imwheel to hookup 
Back/Forward actions in Konqueror/Firefox. My mouse is A4Tech Optical 
GreatEye Wheel Mouse WOP-35
