No sound after updating to polypaudio

After today's update to polypaudio I don't have sound anymore.
Rhythmbox says "Could not open resource for writing".  I still can hear
gnome sounds though.

Do I need to apply any change to make it work?

My soundcard is one of those problematic ones AC97.  I cannot change the
multimedia default sink to alsa because it says that the resource is
being used.  This soundcard cannot mix sound on hardware.
