I'm RM for the PHP-based IRM. It's useable as far as it goes (it was
the asset tracking system at a previous workplace, hence my initial
interest) but it's missing chunks of stuff that people want, which is slowly
being rectified. The Python-based IRM2 has been in development for longer
than I've been involved in IRM development (a year now) and there's no sign
of it being useable yet.

I'm currently torn between my hatred for rewrites and my new-found love of
Ruby on Rails. The IRM codebase is ugly (despite my two months of tidying)
but functional, and there are several people now with a real handle on how
it all hangs together at the moment. I'd certainly recommend at least
assessing IRM (including the new features currently in pre-release) before
starting something else from scratch.
