problems making liveCD with updated kernel

Hi,
I have been following the LiveCDCustomizationHowTo and am attempting to build a
custom hoary and breezy liveCD.  
Once I'm in the chroot, I do an apt-get update, followed by an apt-get
dist-upgrade.  

The apt-get dist-upgrade succeeds on breezy, I get errors though on hoary:

So, how to create a custom ubuntu LiveCD with updated kernel packages?
