Initrd-tools: problems to install 5.10 development version in an Acer Aspire Laptop

Hello all,

I have a laptop (Acer Aspire 3000, with Sempron Mobile 2800), and was
interested to upgrade from Ubuntu 5.04 to Ubuntu 5.10 ("Breezy Badger"
Colony CD 3), mainly because of the bluetooth support, and also the
support for laptop buttons.
I did the download of the install iso, and tried to install it at the
same partition in which I had the old version of Ubuntu, by formatting
it with ReiserFS (I have 3 other partitions besides this last, onde
with WinXP (fat32), one with Slackware (ReiserFS) and one for shared
files (ReiserFS)). When the installation of the base system is almost
finished, I get the message: "unable to install initrd-tools" (or
something like that). I retried two or trhee times and got the same
message in every attempt.
Could some of you give me some hint?
Another question: is it possible for me to simply "upgrade" from 5.04
(which I re-installed) to the new one, without installing it from
zero?

Thanks.

Jônadas
