Usually, such applications are using their own updating mechanisms.
BitDefender products, for example, are updating their virus databases
and scanning engines every 50-70 minutes, using a specialized update
daemon included in the product.

I don't think it's necessary for a distributor (Ubuntu or Debian or
RedHat) to spend resources in this direction when the software providers
can do it.
